Shake It Up with Alumni Events

The past six weeks have seen a plethora of Worcester State alumni events including the MetroWest Regional Networking opportunity, the WSU Alumni Red Sox Night, the Worcester Regional Blue Man Group event, and the WSU Alumni Evening at the Taste of Shrewsbury Street.  Each of these events provided a unique opportunity for alumni to reconnect, meet fellow alumni, and leverage the benefits of being a member of the Worcester State alumni family.

The inaugural alumni networking event drew 21 alumni to Grant Thornton LLP on May 23, 2012 for the opportunity to share thoughts, ideas, contacts, and to expand professional networks. 

A brief presentation by Alan O. Osmolowski '91, C.P.A. addressed the Seven Actions to Take to Grow During a Recession.  Alan, a graduate of the Worcester State business administration program with a concentration in accounting, is Grant Thornton's Partner in Charge of the Tax Operations in the New England Cluster.    

WSU Alumni Red Sox Night

Who would pass up the opportunity to go to a Sox game for just $25?  Certainly not the more than 40 alumni and guests who gathered in the bleachers at Fenway Park on June 7, 2012 to cheer on the Red Sox as they trampled the Orioles! 

While snacking on Fenway Franks and kettle corn, Worcester State alumni settled in for a great game as beach balls bounded overhead.  Little did we know that we were in for a treat as we watched Clay Buchholz pitch his third-career shutout.  Notably, all of his shutouts have come against the O’s.  The final score was 7-0.  For a full review of the game, click here.

On June 9, 2012, 125 alumni and guests gathered for a special Worcester State alumni pre-show reception on the bridge at the Hanover Theatre before a Blue Man Group performance.  President and Mrs. Maloney attended the reception with their oldest daughter, Carden.  Many were pleased to take this opportunity to welcome President Maloney and his family to Worcester State and to commend him on a successful first year. 

Follow the reception, alumni experienced the unique style of Blue Man Group which incorporates comedy, music and technology into an explosive performance.  This sell-out event was a hit with alumni and guests of all ages!     

Taste of Shrewsbury Street Event

Amid the hustle and bustle of Shrewsbury Street, 50 alumni and guests wandered from restaurant to restaurant, from craft tables to pubs, and more at the 10^th Taste of Shrewsbury Street event on June 19, 2012.

This phenomenal event was once again sponsored by the Shrewsbury Street Merchants Association and boasted of over 40 restaurants and pubs in participation.  The Taste of Shrewsbury Street event is a wonderful opportunity for community members to sample dishes from several stellar venues.  In addition to the food samplings, several craft, non-profit, and entertainment vendors opened booths along the street, offering no end to the entertainment while walking between restaurants!
